World Masters Games Kick Off

Edmonton is off and running...and swimming, playing ball, golfing, weightlifting, playing tennis...

Competitors, ranging in age from 25 to 100 years plus, are converging on the capital city July 22nd - 31st for the 2005 World Masters Games. Over 21,285 athletes from 84 countries have registered to participate in one of 27 sporting events.

Edmonton 2005 is the sixth World Masters Games.The first Games were held in Toronto in 1985. They have since been held in Denmark, Brisbane and Portland.

Approximately $4 million dollars has been committed over three fiscal years through Alberta Community Development in support of the Games.
